Leading RGoB’s delegation to the Third United Nations World Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (14-18 March, Sendai), Lyonpo Damcho Dorji, Minister of Home and Cultural Affairs during the Plenary session (16 March) highlighted the vulnerabilities, priorities, achievements, and the challenges faced by Bhutan in the field of disaster risk reduction. Lyonpo reiterated that disasters, exacerbated by climate change, significantly impede progress of the developing countries, towards sustainable development and poverty reduction. He also encouraged greater commitment from the international community towards the implementation of the post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction by strengthening the means of implementation with sustainable, adequate and predictable provision of finance, technology transfer and capacity building.Read More
