The visit to Bhutan by Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge of the United Kingdom, which took place at the invitation of His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, King of Bhutan concluded today.
His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck hosted an archery match and other traditional sports, which the Duke and Duchess participated in. Their Royal Highnesses interacted with students from Ability Bhutan Society and the Draktsho Vocational Training Centre for Special Children and Youth.
Their Royal Highnesses trekked to the Taktsang Monastery in Paro and later in the evening met with Bhutanese who have studied in the United Kingdom.
Their Royal Highnesses’ successful visit has reinforced the growing ties of friendship between the Royal Families and Peoples of Bhutan and the United Kingdom.
Following the visit, the United Kingdom announced the opening of a new Visa Application Centre, which is expected to operationalize in May 2016. The Centre will be located in Thimphu and provide Bhutanese nationals the opportunity to apply for UK visas in Bhutan.
