Ambassador Pema Choden during the Audience with His Majesty Willem-Alexander the King of the Netherlands Ambassador Pema Choden inspecting the Guard of Honour prior to her presentation of credentials to His Majesty the KingAmbassador Pema Choden presented her Letters of Credence to His Majesty Willem-Alexander, King of The Netherlands at the Noordeinde Palace in The Hague on 15 June 2016 accrediting her as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander welcomed Ambassador Pema Choden to The Netherlands.ย  He fondly recalled his private visit to Bhutan in 2007.ย  He wished Ambassador success and expressed the hope that the friendly bilateral relations would be further strengthened during her tenure.

Ambassador Pema Choden conveyed the greetings of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen to Their Majesties the King and Queen of the Netherlands. She said that the people of Bhutan were highly honoured by the visit to Bhutan in 2007 by His Majesty and Her Majesty as the then Prince and Princess of Orange.ย  She said that visits at the highest level helped to further strengthen the already friendly relations between the two countries. She also expressed appreciation for the continued support from the Netherlands to Bhutan in different areas and particularly in human resources development.

During the visit Ambassador Pema Choden met with the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. ย The Honorary Consul of Bhutan in the Netherlands Mr. Cornelis Klein hosted a reception on the occasion.

Formal diplomatic relations between Bhutan and The Netherlands were established in 1985. Ambassador Pema Choden is resident Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden and Spain.
