On the invitation of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Lyonpo DN Dhungyel, Hon’ble Minister for Information and Communications visited Dhaka, Bangladesh to attend the “Civil Service In Development Innovation Summit 2016” from 27-30 July 2016. The Summit was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh on 28 July 2016.
During the two days Summit, Hon’ble Lyonpo was the Chief Guest for a seminar on “Civil Service In Development Innovation: Role of Field Administration” which was attended by the Cabinet Secretary and the Principal Secretary of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, the former Cabinet Secretary of the government of Singapore and by over hundred Divisional and District Commissioners. In his remarks, Lyonpo stressed that uprooting corruption and effective bureaucracy are two very important elements that need to be streamlined in order to provide effective and efficient services to the public. The summit was also attended by officials from Ministry of Information and Communications and Royal Bhutanese Embassy, Dhaka.
On the sidelines of the Summit, an MoU between the Access to Information (a2i) Programme of the Prime Minister’s Office, Bangladesh and Ministry of Information and Communications, Bhutan was signed on the 29th of July 2016.
With the signing of the MoU, the two countries will establish a framework of cooperation on transforming service delivery to make the governments more citizen-centric through the use of ICTs.
