On 7th April 2017, Ambassador Pema Choden presented her Letter of Credence to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark accrediting her as Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the Kingdom of Denmark at the Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen.
Ambassador Choden conveyed greetings and warm wishes of His Majesty the King and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo to Her Majesty the Queen and the people of Denmark. She expressed deep appreciation for the generous support provided by Denmark to Bhutan for over three decades, which had helped to improve the lives of Bhutanese people. She expressed her commitment to further deepen the friendship between Bhutan and Denmark.
Her Majesty the Queen warmly welcomed Ambassador Choden to Denmark. She conveyed her warm wishes to His Majesty the King and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. She expressed satisfaction at the successful cooperation between Denmark and Bhutan, and her admiration for Bhutan’s environmental achievements.
While in Denmark, Ambassador Pema Choden met with senior officials of the Danish Foreign Ministry, Danish Institute for Parties and Democracy, WWF Denmark, VIA University College, Organic Denmark and private companies and discussed ways to further deepen the bilateral relationship between the two countries. She also visited Lund University in nearby Sweden.
The Denmark-Bhutan Friendship Association hosted a dinner in honour of the Ambassador and her delegation. The Denmark-Bhutan Friendship Association was established in 1985.
Formal diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Denmark were established in 1985. Ambassador Pema Choden is resident in Brussels with concurrent accreditation to Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the European Union.
