At the invitation of the Bhutan Society of the United Kingdom, Ambassador Pema Choden of the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Brussels attended the traditional annual dinner in London on 26th November 2018.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Pema Choden conveyed the deep appreciation of the Royal Government and people of Bhutan for the contribution the Society has made in fostering goodwill and friendship between the people of the two Kingdoms. Ambassador re-iterated the very important role played by the Bhutan Society in the UK. Ambassador also briefed the gathering on the recent parliamentary elections in Bhutan.
The dinner was held at the National Liberal Club, in the heart of London and was attended by about 100 persons including members of the Society, and Bhutanese studying and residing in the United Kingdom.
The Bhutan Society of the United Kingdom was established on 6th October 1992 and has over 500 registered members. Sir Simon Bowes Lyon is the President of the Society and Mr. Andrew Sutton is the Chairman since 2018.
It may be recalled that Mr. Michael Rutland, the former Chair of the Society was awarded the National Order of Merit (Gold) on the National Day in December 2017 by His Majesty the King.
