Establishment of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Bhutan and the United Arab Emirates

The Kingdom of Bhutan and the United Arab Emirates, wishing to strengthen and develop mutually beneficial relations between their countries and peoples, have established diplomatic relations with effect from 13th September 2012.

The Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations was signed between H.E. Mr. Lhatu Wangchuk, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bhutan to the United Nations in New York, and H.E. Mr. Ahmed Al-Jarman, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations in New York, on 13th September 2012, at the Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates in New York.

At the signing ceremony, they expressed the interest of their governments to cooperate closely in the bilateral and multilateral fields. In particular, they expressed the desire to further deepen the present level of cooperation between the two countries at the United Nations and at other multilateral forums. The two Ambassadors also discussed the possibility of exchange of visits at all levels as well as the exploration of trade relations between the two countries. The Ambassador of the UAE also invited Bhutan to participate in the trade fairs and exhibitions that are held regularly in Dubai.

The United Arab Emirates is the 42nd country with which Bhutan has established diplomatic relations. They are also the 3rd country in the Middle East with which Bhutan has diplomatic ties.
