The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations in New York joined the nation in celebrating the joyous and auspicious occasion of the 37th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the King at the Mission premises on 19th February 2017.
The ceremony began with a special prayer ceremony at the Mission, during which prayers and Zhabten were offered for the long life, good health and happiness of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen, His Majesty the Fourth King, His Royal Highness the Gyalsey and the members of the Royal Family. Hon’ble Chairperson of National Council, Thrizin Dasho Sonam Kinga, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Dasho Tashi Phuntsho and Kutshab, Officers and Staff of the Mission, including their spouses, participated in the prayer ceremony.
The prayer ceremony was followed by a cultural programme and dinner. Bhutanese working at the United Nations and international organizations in New York, President and office bearers of the United Bhutanese Association in New York (UBANY) joined Kutshab, Officers, Staff and their families to celebrate the event. Hon’ble Chairperson of National Council, Thrizin Dasho Sonam Kinga and Hon’ble Members of Parliament, Dasho Tashi Phuntsho and Dasho Rinzin Dorji also participated in the celebrations. Hon’ble Thrizin of National Council and Kutshab addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of the occasion and the important role of the institution of monarchy for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the nation. This was followed by a cake cutting ceremony.
The members of the Bhutanese community in New York performed cultural songs and dances to mark the special occasion. Following the cultural programme, everyone participated in traditional Bhutanese dances to celebrate the joyous occasion. The celebrations concluded with a Tashi Lebay.
