Permanent Representative Ambassador Doma Tshering participated in the High-Level Thematic Debate on ‘Putting sustainable and resilient tourism at the heart of an inclusive recovery,’ convened by the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Abdulla Shahid on Wednesday, 4 May 2022.
Ambassador Doma Tshering delivered a statement during the second Roundtable themed “For Planet: Accelerating a climate friendly transformation.” Ambassador said that sustainability has always been at the heart of Bhutan’s tourism policy, and is encapsulated in our policy of High Value Low Volume tourism. She also talked about the 2021 Tourism Policy was adopted which aims to promote Bhutan as ‘a green, sustainable, inclusive and a high value tourism destination.’ Citing the example of the landmark 430 km Trans Bhutan Trail, Ambassador underlined the importance of using nature based eco-friendly products that leverages innovation, digitization, sustainability and partnerships to resuscitate the tourism industry.
