The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bhutan extends warmest congratulations to India and all yoga practitioners on the event of the eighth International Day of Yoga.
The commemoration celebration of the 8th International Day of Yoga was held at the UN Headquarters in New York on 20 June 2022. The event was organized by the Permanent Mission of India under the theme, “Yoga for Humanity.”
Permanent Representative Ambassador Doma Tshering shared her remarks during the event. Ambassador highlighted yoga as a pathway to sustainable development, consonant with the ethos of Bhutan’s development philosophy of Gross National Happiness. She shared that yoga has multifaceted health benefits and that it encourages a deeper sense of interconnectedness within the community, society and natural world around us. “Yoga may have had its roots in the rich and ancient traditions of India but today as our presence this evening testifies, it has transcended borders and is truly India’s gift to humanity,” Ambassador underscored.
The United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by Resolution 69/131, initiated by India on 11 December 2014. Bhutan was among the 176 co-sponsors of this resolution. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.
