Hon’ble Foreign Minister, Lyonpo (Dr.) Tandi Dorji, arrived in New York this morning to participate in the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Hon’ble Foreign Minister will lead Bhutan’s delegation for the High Level Week of the 77th session, from 19-26th September 2022.
The theme of the general debate of the 77th session is “A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges.” 193 Member States will deliberate on how interlinking challenges confronting the world today can be collectively addressed to develop transformative solutions, through solidarity, sustainability, and science.
The UN General Assembly is the main policy making organ of the Organisation. Bhutan has been a member of the United Nations since 1971.
During the week, Foreign Minister will address the General Assembly during the general debate of the session, participate in high level intergovernmental meetings, and speak at side events highlighting global issues of priority to the Royal Government. Lyonpo will also conduct bilateral meetings with a number of senior officials of the United Nations and bilateral partners.
