The Officials and staff of the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations and the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Bhutan in New York celebrated the 116th National Day with the Bhutanese community in New York on 16th December 2023.
The celebration was organized by the United Bhutanese Association of New York in collaboration with the Permanent Mission and Consulate General which saw more than 600 Bhutanese in attendance. The program commenced with the national anthem and marchang ceremony followed by a cultural programme which consisted of national dance and songs performed by youth and children.
The event was coordinated to coincide with the start of the National Day celebrations in Changlimithang and arrangements were made to livestream the Thimphu celebrations in the event hall in New York. The highlight of the evening was witnessing the live Address of His Majesty The King.
Addressing the gathering, Chargé d’affaires a.i. Phuntsho Norbu reminded the significance of the occasion and said that it was an opportune moment for all Bhutanese to re-commit their faith and loyalty to the service of the King and the country. He also offered prayers for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of Pelden Drukpa and its people under the leadership of His Majesty The King.
A raffle draw and dinner was organized for all attendees and ended with Bhutanese songs and dances followed by Tashi Labey.
