The 17th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP17) is taking place from 11-14 June 2024 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Having become a State Party to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on 13 March 2024, this is the first time that Bhutan is participating at the Conference. Ambassador Pema Lektup Dorji is leading the Bhutanese delegation.
The President of the COSP17 extended warm congratulations and special welcome to Bhutan along with the Solomon Islands, Liechtenstein and Cameroon on becoming States Parties to CRPD after its 16th Session of the COSP which took place from 13-15 June 2023.
The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is one of the only human rights treaties that is witnessing a stable trend in achieving universal ratification demonstrating a strong commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities. As of date, there are 191 States Parties to the Convention.
