H.E. Dr. Karin Kneissl, Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs of Austria, accompanied by senior officials from the Austrian government, is leading an official delegation to Bhutan from 23 to 25 February 2019. During the visit, the Minister will call on Hon’ble Lyonchhen, H.E (Dr) Lotay Tshering, meet the Hon’ble Foreign Minister, H.E (Dr) Tandi Dorji and senior government officials collaborating with Austrian Coordination Office on various areas of mutual interest.

During the course of the visit, the two sides will also sign a Transitional Strategy Paper called the ‘Bhutan Country Strategy 2019-2023’. Diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Austria was established on 8 May 1989 following the February 1989 meeting between His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo and Dr. Alois Mock, Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister of Austria, in Tokyo. Austria is one of the most important development partners of Bhutan. This is the first visit by a Foreign Minister of Austria to Bhutan since the establishment of diplomatic relation between the two countries.
