H.E. Lyonchhen (Dasho) Tshering Tobgay, visited Guwahati, Assam from 1 – 4 February 2018. He was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Economic Affair, Government officials and business representatives
Lyonchhen was warmly received by Shri Rihon Daimary, Minister of Public Health Engineering and Food Supplies on arrival at ย Lokpriya Bordoloi Airport on 1 February. In the evening H.E. Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Assam, hosted a dinner reception for Lyonchhen and his delegation.
Lyonchhen graced the inauguration of the Royal Bhutanese Consulate by Lyonpo Damcho Dorji and the Chief Minister of Assam on 2 February. The opening of the Consulate was attended by Cabinet Ministers and officials of the Government of Assam, the members of the Legislative Assembly, business houses, media luminaries and distinguished citizens of Assam. The opening of the Consulate was a mile stone event to celebrate the golden jubilee of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bhutan and India.
Lyonchhen attended the inauguration of the Advantage Assam summit and addressed the inaugural summit along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 3 February. In his address Lyonchhen praised the leadership role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his look east and act east policy. He also congratulated the Chief Minister for hosting this innovative summit which will attract a lot of investment for Assam and the region. Lyonchhen highlighted the FDI policy of Bhutan and underscored Bhutan as an investment destination.
A number of dignitaries called on Lyonchhen including the Chief Minister of Assam, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Union Home Minister of India ย Kiren Rejiju, Minister of Commerce, Government of the Peopleโs Republic of Bangladesh and Minister of Commerce, Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar
Honโble Lyonchhen also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and held discussions on a range of issues of bilateral interest between Bhutan and India including the revision of the Chukha tariff and a visit by Prime Minister Modi to Bhutan.
The visit of Lyonchhen was appreciated by the government and the people of Assam and it also received wide media interest.
