On the auspicious Occasion of the 38th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the King a cultural event was organized in Perth on 21st February 2018 to celebrate the occasion with the Association of Bhutanese in Perth Incorporated (ABPI), Western Australia. A 5-member artiste’s group from the Bhutan Film Association comprising of leading Bhutanese celebrities -Aum Lhamo Dukpa, Namgay Tenzin (Jigs), Gem Tshering Sherab Lhamo, and Sonam Tenzin (Sergyel) performed at the event. The artistes’ group was led by Mr. Rinchen Dorji, Director, Department of Information and Media, Ministry of Information  and Communication, while the Embassy was represented by Mr. Kuenzang Rinzin, Minister.

Mr. Kuezang Rinzin in his welcome remarks informed the gathering that the event was sponsored by the Royal Government of Bhutan to express the Royal Government’s appreciation to the Bhutanese Community abroad for contributing to the country’s economic growth. He highlighted the importance of preserving the Bhutanese culture, tradition and identity as citizens from a small landlocked country. He stated that Bhutanese living abroad are expected to be law abiding and exemplary Bhutanese citizens. He thanked the Executive members of the ABPI for their support in coordinating the event and also for the support extended to Bhutanese living in Perth.

The cultural event was organized at the Macedonian Cultural Centre and was attended by more than 600 spectators, the highest gathering of Bhutanese so far which reflected the solidarity and deep respect for His Majesty the King. The Bhutanese Community expressed their deep and humble gratitude to His Majesty the King and the Royal Government of Bhutan for the opportunity to celebrate the auspicious occasion in Perth. The ABPI members noted that the event was a milestone for the Bhutanese Community as it contributed in cementing the relations amongst the Bhutanese Community and with local authority in Perth.

During the visit Mr. Kuenzang Rinzin met with the Representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australian Federal Police and Office of Multicultural Interest in Perth to convey the appreciation of the Royal Government of Bhutan for the support extended to the Bhutanese Community in Perth.
