On the auspicious occasion of commemorating the 111th National Day of the Kingdom of Bhutan, the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Brussels hosted a reception in The Hotel on 17th December 2018.
In her remarks, Kutshab Aum Pema Choden highlighted the importance and significance of the National Day of Bhutan and also briefed about the successful recent elections in Bhutan. Kutshab also expressed appreciation to the European Union and its Member States for their support to Bhutan over the decades.
The Guests of Honour Mr. Richard Corbett, Member of the European Parliament, Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with the Countries of South Asia and Ms. Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Managing Director, Asia and the Pacific Department of the European External Action Service noted the excellent relations between Bhutan and the European Union. They commended Bhutan’s vibrant & successful democracy and its efforts in addressing climate change. They assured the EU’s continued support to Bhutan.
The reception was attended by around 250 people including members of the diplomatic corps, the Belgian government, the European Union, and business community and academia in Belgium, Buddhist Union in Belgium, Honorary Consuls of Bhutan from Germany and the Netherlands, officials from other EU member states, members of the friendship societies of Bhutan from France, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden and the United Kingdom, as well as Bhutanese students and residents from other European countries.
The Embassy also hosted a lunch for the Honorary Consuls and the Friendship Associations of Bhutan on Tuesday 18th December 2018 at the Embassy.
