Ms. Paola Pampaloni, Deputy Managing Director, Asia and Pacific Department, European External Action Service (EEAS) called on H.E. Lyonpo (Dr.) Tandi Dorji, Hon’ble Foreign Minister today. During the meeting, the two sides expressed satisfaction with the excellent state of bilateral ties and the successful cooperation between Bhutan and the EU and discussed ways to further enhance the relationship.

Ms. Pampaloni is leading a delegation from European Commission to Bhutan from 12-16 March 2019 to take part in the 14th Round Table Meeting. Ms. Pampaloni is accompanied by Ms. Raffaella Angela Iodice, Head of Unit, Asia, DEVCO, Ms. Diana Montero Melis, Assistant to the Director General, DEVCO, European Commission, Mr. Klas Nyman, Desk Officer, ASIAPAC, EEAS and Mr. Subramanian Pattabiraman, Project Manager.

Formal diplomatic relations between Bhutan and the EU were established on 9th August 1985. Since then, EU has been an important development partner for Bhutan and is one of the few partners still active in Bhutan. The total EU assistance to Bhutan for the 2014-2020 multi-annual indicative programme (MIP) period is € 51 million.

During the visit, the delegation will also call on the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Speaker, Hon’ble Finance Minister and other senior government officials.
