The Government of the State of Kuwait has made a generous contribution of US$ 3.5 Million Dollars and the Kuwait Red Crescent Society has made a similar contribution of US$ 2 million in assistance towards the reconstruction and rehabilitation costs for damages caused by Cyclone Aila in May 2009 and the Earthquake on 21 September 2009.
Diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Bhutan and the State of Kuwait started with the opening of a Consulate General in 1983, which was later upgraded to an Embassy in 1986. Kuwait is the only country in the Middle East with which Bhutan has resident diplomatic missions.
