RBE Brussels Hosts First get together of the European Friends of Bhutan.
The first ever get together in Europe of the Honorary Consuls, Friendship Associations, Partners and other friends of Bhutan in the European Union countries was hosted by the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Brussels as a part of its commemorative events to observe Bhutan’s National Day on 17 December 2013.
Present at the working lunch conference were the Bhutanese Honorary Consul in the Netherlands and Germany, along with representatives of the Friendship Associations from Denmark, Netherlands, France, UK, Sweden and Hungary as well as Bhutanese residents and students.
Kutshab Sonam Tshong informed that the main purpose of the get together was to acknowledge and thank our friends, partners and well wishers in Europe for their contributions and also to discuss how we could further improve our cooperation and coordination both with the Embassy and among the Associations themselves.
Kutshab provided an update on the current political, social and economic priorities of the Royal Government including the issue of introducing electric powered public transportation and overseas employment possibilities for Bhutanese was touched on. An exclusively Bhutanese lunch prepared by a team of visiting Bhutanese was served. The occasion gave an opportunity to further strengthen existing relations with our friends in Europe.
Later in the evening, the Embassy hosted a reception which included Bhutanese cultural performance and cuisine. Besides the diplomatic community, business persons, academicians, media and friends of Bhutan, a number of Bhutanese residents and students studying in places as far as Spain, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Belgium also attended the reception.
