Lyonpo Rinzin Dorje, Minister for Foreign Affairs, in his maiden statement at the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly on 30th September 2013, said that “the second parliamentary elections were yet another milestone on the path of democracy that Bhutan chose to undertake five years ago.” At the same time, he emphasized that democracy must go beyond elections and that Bhutan will continue to work towards strengthening democratic institutions and culture.
