Press Release: His Majesty’s State Visit to India

At the invitation the Government of India, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen will be on a State Visit to India from 23-30 January 2013 as the Chief Guest of the 64th Republic Day celebrations of India. His Majesty the King will be accompanied by Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk, Minister-in-Charge for Foreign Affairs, Lyonpo Wangdi Norbu, Finance Minister, Lyonpo C. Dorji, Chairman of the Royal Privy Council and other senior officials of the Royal Government.

During the visit, His Majesty the King is scheduled to meet with Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, President of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister and other senior officials of the Government of India.

The Republic Day of India commemorates the date on which the Constitution of India came into force replacing the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of India on 26th January 1950. The Republic Day celebrations officially conclude with the Beating Retreat Ceremony on the evening of 29th January, during which the President of India is the Chief Guest.

The State Visit of His Majesty the King to India will greatly deepen the friendship between the governments and the peoples of Bhutan and India.
