The Consul General (CG) accompanied by the Dy. Consul General and the Attaché Immigration of the Royal Bhutanese Consulate General (RBCG) in Kolkata called on the Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang of the Sikkim State Government on 5 April 2022 at the latter’s official residence at Mintokgang. The CG conveyed warm wishes and greetings of His Majesty the King, the Royal Government and the People of Bhutan to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, his government and people of Sikkim. The Chief Minister and the CG discussed ways to further enhance the relationship between the Royal Government and Sikkim.

The Consul General and team also called on Shri Ganga Prasad, the Governor of Sikkim. CG conveyed warm greetings of His Majesty the King and underlined Bhutan and India’s strong connections. He expressed gratitude to the Indian government for its assistance and cooperation.

 

The Consul General also met with Shri GP Upadhayaya Additional Chief Secretary (IAS), the Education Secretary, Shri Raju Basnet, the Sports Secretary, Dr. S. Anbalagan, the CEO of Sikkim Organic Farming Development Agency, Agriculture Department. The Additional Secretary welcomed CG and team and stressed on the deep-rooted friendship between Bhutan and India. CG congratulated Sikkim for the rapid development and enquired on possibilities of cooperation with respect to cardamom, organic farming, tourism and education.

The Consul General is on an introductory visit to Sikkim after assumption of office in July 2021. While in Sikkim, CG also met with the Bhutanese students studying in Sikkim and assured the students of the Consulate’s full support in any consular matters.

En route, the Consul General met with Shri S Ponambalan, District Magistrate of Darjeeling district.
