In addition to providing public outreach and awareness about Bhutan in their own countries and raising funds and supporting projects in Bhutan, the Friendship Associations are helpful for visiting Bhutanese or students. The Friendship Associations organize biennial meetings amongst themselves, hosted by one of the societies. The European Bhutan Friendship Association made a joint visit to Bhutan in November 2012 and November 2019.
