Visit by Canada’s Ambassador-designate to Bhutan

H.E. Mr. Joseph Caron, Ambassador-designate of Canada to Bhutan, will arrive in Bhutan on 10th August 2009. He will present his credentials to His Majesty the King tomorrow at the Tashichhodzong. Mr. Caron succeeds Mr. David M. Malone who was Canada’s Ambassador to Bhutan from August 2006 to 2008.
While in the country, Mr. Caron will call on Hon’ble Prime Minister, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Minister for Education, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, and visit places of historical and religious significance.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Caron served as Canada’s Ambassador to Japan from 2005 to the summer of 2008. From August 2008, Mr. Caron was assigned as Canada’s High Commissioner to India and concurrently accredited as Ambassador to Bhutan and Nepal.
Formal diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Canada were established in June 2003. Cooperation between Bhutan and Canada has mainly been in the education sector through the training of Bhutanese teachers and educationists.
Bhutan and Canada enjoy warm and cordial relations that date back to the early 1960s.
